Jan 17, Breakfast and Lunch

17 Jan

As I get better at this and learn more, I’ll be commenting on what I’m doing right and wrong.  Like, I believe minimal dairy is the way to go on Paleo, but I have this yogurt already, see.  And I got the sweetened almond milk vs unsweetened because I want to kind of ease into this.

I’ll be mentioning brands where applicable, not because I’m a corporate tool (although I’ll gladly take their ad money if offered to me!) but because I may want to go back and check later for things like “hey, something different happened, did I change brands of almond milk? or did that one have hydrogenated oils in it?” etc.

Breakfast:

  • organic Red Delicious apple
  • 4 oz TraderJoe’s Greek Honey yogurt
  • Sumatra office coffee with organic Fresh-n-Easy brand Almond Milk

Lunch:

  • Sumatra office coffee with organic Fresh-n-Easy brand Almond Milk
  • mixed greens, roasted brussel sprouts, free-range chicken breast slices, 1.5 hardboiled eggs, balsamic vinegar-based dressing (our office has a rockin’ salad bar)
  • Navel orange
    • Rather than naval orange, because it has a belly-button and not a bunch of boats. My thought processes will be a feature for some readers and a bug for others, but it’s who I am.

Dear WordPress: why oh why can I not sync tags and categories?  Is it my dimly lit imagination, running on a single ancient LED, that I even want to do this?  Is there some grand and glorious information architecture, of which I dare not dream, such that it would not occur to anyone?  Or is it one more brick in the wall to move to hosting my own WP site?  OK, back to the blog…

Welcome to My Journey!

17 Jan

I’m starting to eat the Paleo way as of today, eliminating wheat from my diet, emphasizing animal protein, and working on cutting out dairy (so tough for a cheesehound like me!).

Most of the resources I’ve seen on Paleo on the net have been by men. In my readings I’ve seen a number of comments from women saying “I am having a different experience” and “Are there other women out there trying this? I’d love to team up with you!” I thought I’d start a Paleo site specifically for women, though usable by anybody who wants to get started with Paleo.

I’ll be updating daily, and fleshing out the site as I go. Comments with great sources welcome, especially beginner sites, recipes, etc.

One focus that I have is that I’m quite concerned about sustainability, organics, food security, and similar issues. I hope to feature sources for truly pasture-raised, grass-fed, organic meat. Doing Paleo on factory-farm standard American meat seems like the wrong way to go, for both ethical and health reasons. Finding local sources builds food security as well as minimizes the resources to get from farm to table. If there’s enough interest, I can set up a companion wiki or forum that we can use to list resources for each other through many geographical areas. I’ll also link to information on raising your own animal food, be it backyard chickens (for eggs or meat), rabbits, etc.

My lunch hour is over, time to go! Please say hi and let me know what you’d like to see in this blog!

Make the Journey With Me!

17 Jan

Have you recently started a Paleo diet?  Are you already on one?  Did you do one in the past and have experiences to share?  Can you make some of the stuff we have to eat more, um, edible?

Or, to put it more specifically:

Hey, fellow chicks, babes, woman-people, womyn, and general female avatars of XX chromosomeness:  Want to play bloggies with me?

If you’re interested in becoming a contributor to this blog, or have an item of interest on your own regular blog, please let me know.  I’m looking forward to building community with other women who are trying this Paleo way.

I am not paying myself, and can’t pay you, but fame, fortune, glory, and full-color links on a real, live, totally obscure, brand-new blog await you!  YES! You can scarcely restrain yourself!  That’s the spirit!  Woo-hoo!

As they used to (and maybe still do) say on The Price Is Right, “COME ON DOWN!”

Snackity Snack, Don’t Talk Back

17 Jan

Various Snacks at Work Today:

  • 4 Dove dark chocolate squares
  • banana
  • 12 oz water
  • TraderJoe chewable multivitamin
  • 8oz Fresh-n-Easy “creamy carrot soup” (nice ginger! but has sugar, wups)
couple of bites of a bartlett pear that tasted weird, discarded
  • Pink Lady apple
  • decaf office coffee with Fresh-n-Easy brand organic sweetened Almond Milk
  • a yummlicious Hass avocado with Breakfast that I forgot to log earlier
  • 5 tiny tasty dried plums

Gotta get home and get some dead animal, err, substantial protein for dinner!

Oh and change the blog headline back to black from red; I did it at the end of lunch hour and it made the “subtle, warm” background into a “skeezy, pink” background.  I think I’ll use italics for these metabloggy comments.  Ooh, there’s that autospell thang red-lining me again.  Don’cha wanna just smack it?!  Me too!
